Alamo Heights, Texas is a small city that was incorporated in 1922. However, this small city lies within a much larger city, which is San Antonio, Texas. There aren’t too many cities that are a city within another city, but Alamo Heights, Texas is just that.

The city of Alamo Heights claims to be a wonderful place to live that is dedicated to its citizens and their desires for a close knit community. And, with San Antonio right there with its population of over one million there are plenty of things to do from shopping to dining and recreation to sightseeing. Even within the city limits of Alamo Heights there is outstanding shopping, superb dining, and fun activities for the whole family to take part in.

The History of Alamo Heights
The history of Alamo Heights, Texas, is quite interesting. There was an Indian campground where many individuals came by to rest and enjoy the area. It was known as Yanaguana in 1691 and then the name was changed to San Antonio de Padua. By 1836 the area had been changed to Alamo Heights and it was included in the San Antonio survey as public land. Since it was public land the area was sold in 1837 and purchased by James R. Sweet. The land was bought and sold various times. In the 1900s the area was almost annexed as part of San Antonio. However, after a vote in 1922, Alamo Heights became an independent municipality. And, Alamo Heights has remained independent of San Antonio ever since.

Single family average price for homes sold in the Alamo Heights Sudivision, accordng to the San Antonio Board of Realtors, in the year 2005, were $347,806 @ $164SF, 2006, average price $436,149 @$184SF, and as traditionally so, the average price increased in 2007 to $419,011 @ $190SF.  Its proximity to San Antonio, Lackland Air Force Base, and San Antonio International Airport make Alamo Heights a great place to live for all kinds of individuals.
