Military's Medicine in San Antonio, Texas
The first class of Military Medical Education and Training at Fort Sam Houston will start this summer. It will be the largest facility of its kind in the world. A $940 million campus. Over 50,000 students a year (yes, I said, a year) from the Army, Air Force and Navy will graduate from the Army Medical Department Center and School. It is going to be the largest training for allied Health professionals of these sorts.
METC was created by the 2005 Defense Base Closer and Realignment Commission, or more commonly known as, BRAC. Part of $2.36 billion in new construction at Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis that will add over 12,500 civilian and military workers to San Antonio's oldest post.
More importantly, METC is a 21st century medicine. The METC is the largest consolidation of military training in Defense Department history, taking a larger roll a the facilities get bigger and the outreach gets better.
Another plus for our economy & our real estate industry, that is as old as the military in San Antonio, troops serving here who'll one day return to make it their home. None of these people are going to stay in the military forever, they are going to retire or they are gong to separate from the service and keep plying their trade in our community.
San Antonio, as one client told me a few years back, "a well kept little secret, as one of the best cities to live", is "no secret" anymore.
Welcome all to San Antonio,
